When I was contacted by Buyamba I immediately fell in love with their mission of restoring hope. Buyamba is a shoe company that is doing so much more than just shoes, they are changing the lives of both women and children in Uganda. Initially inspired by Tom’s shoes (a company that donates with every purchase to a child in need), Buyamba wanted to also make a difference. Their vision started with wondering what would happen to a child’s life if they gave their parent a job.
These beautiful women, and many more, make the lovely beads that adorn each Buyamba shoe and which get incorporated into their footwear design. The income generated from their beads, empowers and supports many (over 200 so far!) displaced Ugandan families. Along with providing an avenue of employment, Buyamba works with Buyamba Uganda, a non-profit, and also donates a portion of their sales to support educational and nutritional needs of Ugandan children. They call it a Cycle of Hope.
