DIY TASSEL TOTE BAG

Summer is almost here, can you believe it?? I am so so excited!  ONE because my baby will be due in a month and a half ahhhhh – and TWO…beach days, bright colors, warm bike rides, BBQ’s and all that other summer goodness.  In honor of summer I made this SUPER simple DIY tassel tote bag.  Because everyone needs a functional and fun “go to” summer bag.  This tassel tote bag is perfection and doesn’t take long to make.  Also…the colorful tassel hanging screams summer, don’t you think? DIY-tassel-bagMake-this-fun-easy-tassel-tote-bag-just-in-time-for-summerDIY-tassels-for-tote-bagDIY-summer-tote-bag-with-colorful-tassels

SUPPLIES
Faux Leather Tote Bag
Embroidery Thread (buy three of each color you are using)
-Ball Chain with Clasps (I got mine from Hobby Lobby, but check any jewelry section at most craft stores)
Scissors
Painters or Patterning Tape
Paint

DIY-rainbow-tassel--Do one color at a time and cut the bottom of each of the three bundles.  I wanted two thicker tassels instead of three thinner ones, so I added my third bundle of thread to the first two.  Take your first bundle of thread and put it around the ball chain.

How-to-make-a-tasselTie off the embroidery thread, making it into a mini tassel.  Do the same with the second pile of embroidery thread, same color.  Then continue all the steps until all the colors are tied on.  After they are all tied on you can cut and trim the bottom of the tassels.  I kept them almost the same length, but just cut off all the random strings.  But you can cut any length or shape.

IMG_6213--- Take the ball chain and stick it through the rivet where the rope handle comes out.IMG_6215---IMG_6217---

Then connect the ball chain on the inside.  You have two options…you can either connect the ball chain how I did, or you can secure each side to each rope handle with your extra clasps.

Painted-rope-handleLastly paint the handle.  Use your patterning tape and tape off an area of the handle and paint.  It will take a few coats, then let dry.

And you are DONE! woo hoo!
